He is seated in a garden with his small dog at his feet, a pair of swans and an estate in the distance, housed in the original gold gesso frame, having an old (anglicized) name tag. OS: 36 1/2" x 31 1/2", SS: 29 1/2" x 24 1/2", cleaned and relined. Zoffany was a founding member in 1769 of the new Royal Academy of London. He found Royal patronage in King George III, but also was known for his portraits of actors.
